As we enter into the new year, many of us are looking for ways to improve ourselves and find inner peace. One way to achieve this is by becoming more spiritual. In fact, Merriam-Webster’s Word of the Year for 2023 is authentic.

Authentic has a number of meanings including “not false or imitation,” a synonym of real and actual; and also “true to one’s own personality, spirit, or character. Being authentic also reflects the growing interest in spirituality and mindfulness.

The bible is filled with people who felt free to be authentic with God.  Look at David in Psalm 119:25-32. We want to have that freedom but sometimes don't know how.

To start your spiritual journey, you can begin by setting aside time each day for meditation or prayer. This could be as simple as taking a few minutes in the morning to focus on your breath and clear your mind. You can also explore different spiritual practices such as yoga, tai chi, which can help to calm the mind and connect you with your inner self & with God.

Another way to become more spiritual is to cultivate gratitude and compassion. This means taking time each day to appreciate the blessings in your life, and to extend kindness and understanding to others. By focusing on the positive and being empathetic towards others, you can create a more peaceful and fulfilling life.

Finally, you can deepen your spiritual practice by exploring new ways to worship. Whether it’s reading books on spirituality, listening to spiritual music, attending church services, or seeking out spiritual teachers, there are many ways to expand your understanding of the world and your place in it. In conclusion, becoming more spiritual is a personal journey that requires dedication and patience. By setting aside time each day for meditation, cultivating gratitude and compassion, you can find inner peace and live a more authentic and fulfilling life.
